Windows XP/2000 Crash Management Utility Ships

Alexander SPK Windows resolves Windows XP/2000 crashes that result in the “Blue Screen of Death”

Nashua, NH, October 22, 2002 – Alexander LAN, Inc™, the leading provider of crash management software, today announced shipment of the industry’s first System Protection Kit (SPK) for Windows. Already available in the NetWare environment, this latest release of the Alexander SPK automates resolution of Windows XP/2000 crashes. Following a system crash (Blue Screen), it recovers the system, analyzes the cause, and reports to the system administrators. All the administrator does is view the SPK Crash Report to see the faulty driver clearly identified.

“Resolving system level crashes under Windows has been difficult, if not impossible, for most users. This is because the data needed to resolve crashes, as with all operating systems, is cryptic, cumbersome to obtain, and few are trained to interpret it,” said Dirk A. D. Smith, President of Alexander LAN, Inc. “Having the Alexander SPK Windows installed on your servers and workstations is like having the world’s smartest senior Microsoft system engineer in your office resolving crashes for you.”

The Alexander SPK’s fully automated operation gets the server or PC back up and sends the report to the central server. Instant notification of the crash to the IT staff via SNMP traps and email alerts ensures that they can begin identifying the crash cause quickly, preventing further costly server downtime. The crash reports generated by the SPK make data interpretation easy and crash resolution simple by pinpointing the faulty driver. This enables IT staff to resolve the crash cause, preventing a recurrence, instead of simply restarting the server and worrying when it will happen again.

“Most crashes are repeat crashes. This is because resolution is so difficult that users simply restart the workstation or server and hope for the best. When the system is back on line they may try to resolve it but with little to go on and no training it’s likely to recur a dozen times before it’s resolved,” says Steven R. Snyder, CTO of SRS Associates, Inc. “The Alexander SPK saves our office a tremendous amount of money by nailing the cause immediately following the first crash.”

Pricing and Shipping
Alexander SPK for Windows is available worldwide. Pricing for the base kit starts at $499 and includes licenses for one SPK Manager Console and Crash Capture Modules
for one server and five workstations. The Alexander SPK Windows fully supports Windows XP/2000 and will process crash files for NT 4. Additional licenses can be purchased separately.
